Hallein retirement home: from solid to modular timber construction

Since October 2013, an architecturally sophisticated retirement home in Hallein has been offering older people from the region a modern home. Originally planned as a solid construction, the winning project of an architectural competition was systematically converted to a sustainable modular timber construction.

144 modules, including fully equipped living spaces and wet rooms, were prefabricated in the factory and assembled on site in record time – at a rate of 10 to 12 modules per day. The precise realisation is reminiscent of the efficiency of the automotive industry and sets standards for future-oriented residential construction in the care sector.
