The next milestone in Berlin’s school building campaign.

Foundation stone laid for second HOCOMP school

The foundation stone for Berlin’s second timber apartment school has been laid in Kalker Straße in Treptow-Köpenick – a further step in the school construction campaign. The school building for 625 pupils is being built in just 13 months using sustainable modular timber construction. Kaufmann Bausysteme is prefabricating the 316 room modules directly at the Berlin-Köpenick plant – including windows, building services and sanitary installations.

Thanks to the flexible HOCOMP type construction concept, the architecture can be individually adapted to the urban environment. Inside, modern compartments with open-plan learning landscapes ensure optimal educational conditions. The campus is complemented by a sports hall and – at the district’s request – a media workshop with a recording studio.

The school fulfils the BNB “Silver” standard as well as the EG 40 efficiency house standard. Photovoltaics, green roofs and a hybrid ventilation system with heat recovery make it a pioneering educational building.
