Woodie offers micro-apartments for 371 students.

The ground floor and the three access cores are of conventional reinforced concrete construction. The ground floor forms a kind of concrete table, which cantilevers in the area of the shorter crossbars; below the cantilever are fully glazed rooms for communal use and catering. The 371 residential modules are stacked on the concrete table to form five or six upper storeys. The 20 m² flats, including their fixtures, were prefabricated entirely from glulam (spruce). With the exception of the natural rubber flooring, all surfaces have been left transparent. They create a pleasant and healthy indoor climate. The rear-ventilated elementised curtain wall made of pre-greyed larch was also prefabricated, with its substructure and all thermal and sound insulation layers already pre-assembled on the modules.

In 2015, I met Christian Kaufmann while looking for a manufacturer of sanitary units for the WOODIE student residence. An initial informational discussion developed into a close, friendly collaboration that made WOODIE a game changer for us and the industry. Our now close partnership is characterised by constant innovation that underlines our creative and effective German-Austrian teamwork.
