Model project in timber construction: Sustainable primary school in Berlin

The three-form entry primary school in the district of Lichtenberg offers space for up to 432 pupils and sets new standards in terms of room quality and sustainability. The innovative spatial concept was developed as part of Berlin’s school building campaign to create state-of-the-art learning environments.

As the second model project of the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing, the school was built using modular timber construction. The modules were delivered to the construction site completely prefabricated, enabling a fast and cost-efficient construction time of just six weeks. This project shows how forward-looking sustainable school construction can be designed.
